A #pilgrimage to the #Drongiri #temple in Uttarakhand, North India

Approximately 600 km (250 miles) from Delhi in the state of Uttarakhand, lies a cluster of 6 small villages that forms the district of Drongiri or Dunagiri or Doonagiri. It is famous for the temple of Dunagiri (an hour's drive from Dwarahat) dedicated to the Goddess Vaishnavi that attracts a large number of pilgrims every year.

I was there with my friend a couple of years ago and together we climbed the 800 steps leading to the Drongiri temple. The climb was well worth it--it had rained heavily and the only sounds were of the insects, rain-drops and our footsteps. It felt mystical and other-worldly as we climbed quietly one step after the other.
