#Calvinandhobbes: 5 reasons you absolutely need to read this!
The first time I started to read Calvin and Hobbes was, believe it or not, when I was trying to get over a guy. I must confess that despite my agonizing mental states, it brought a smile on my tear-jerked face, swollen with the misery of unfulfilled human love and attachment! This last week has been particularly tough on me (oh boy!) and as I was browsing Pinterest, suddenly my sister's board on Calvin and Hobbes popped up on the computer screen in front of me and reading the jokes, I couldn't but marvel at the author's (Bill Watterson) amazing sense of humor and wit as he explores life through the eyes of a six year old boy called Calvin. At once intelligently humorous and delightful, Calvin's observations on life are touching and in a certain sense satirical towards society and its norms in general.
So I thought it would make a great fun post to feature Calvin on my blog and why it's so important to read his comic books! Enjoy!
1. Calvin puts life in perspective
Somehow Calvin always seems to relieve the pressures of daily life and whenever I start getting too touchy or finicky about things, reading his comic books always helps me to put life in perspective by looking at the larger picture and not take things too seriously!
2. Calvin's humor is therapeutic!
Whether you are nursing a broken heart or getting over an argument you just had with your husband, Calvin's wise sense of humor provides relief to every kind of situation. It acts like a soothing balm for the agitated nerves and may also contribute to good health by bringing down abnormally high adrenaline levels!
3. It's a nice filler :)
I am usually very careful about what I take in my mind space because simply put, whatever goes in comes out; in other words, the kind of vibrations I am giving out is directly linked to the kind of mind-space I have created for myself. Instead of reaching out for my phone whenever I have just that extra bit of time every now and then and checking who is doing what on Instagram, I've instead started to reach out for good books or small inspirational quotes and having Calvin's humor only adds that extra laugh to the day which is so essential to one's well being!
4. It increases my own sense of humor :)
Reading his books develops my own sense of humor and helps me to make friends a lot easier because people like to be around those who are happy and cheerful!
5. Calvin's wisdom is awe-inspiring!
I think Calvin always hits on to the deep stuff of life in such a friendly and humorous way that reading his comic-strips also sets me thinking deeply on things I need to change in my life! This is also perhaps one of the reasons his books carry a certain universality appealing to all ages from 6 year old boys to all of us grown-ups still trying to get a hang of what life is truly about.
