Hello friends,

more than a couple of years ago, I attended an SRF Sunday Service at the beautiful SRF Church in Lake Shrine, Pacific Palisades, Ca, U.S.A., and the Brother who gave the service actually had printed copies of the key-points of the lecture, for us to take with us. The topic was, Ten Keys to Realizing our Dreams and Goals and it is based on the teachings of #Paramahansa Yogananda, founder of the church and author of the acclaimed book Autobiography of a Yogi-the same book that was given out to attendees at the funeral of Steve Jobs; apparently Steve Jobs was greatly influenced by the book and read it once every year.

Anyway, since I found what was given to us in the the printed copies hugely inspiring, I post it here for the benefit of others (as well as myself) and hope that after reading it, you will find fresh enthusiasm from it for fulfilling your own life's goals and realizing all you cherished dreams and noble aspirations!

“What you are is much greater than anything or anyone else you have ever yearned for. ”

— Paramahansa Yogananda

1. Put them in writing

“Write down your own thoughts and aspirations daily. Find out what you are-and not what you imagine you are!-because you want to make yourself what you ought to be. ”

— Paramahansa Yogananda

It has been statistically shown that when we write down our goals and dreams, we immediately have a 50% greater chance of realizing them, even if we just put them in a drawer and never read them again!

2. Review the list often and visualize attainment of dreams and goals

Reading our list of dreams and goals regularly crystallizes our intent and increases our chances of realizing those goals and dreams even more, especially if the reading is accompanied by strongly visualizing ourselves having already attained the goals and dreams.

3. Be committed and take action steps

“Strong thoughts create conditions in kind; they set in motion the minds of others who will later step forward to assist in realizing the goal one is visualizing, and when faith becomes very powerful, God Himself will so order the sought-for attainment. ”

— Paramahansa Yogananda

We must really commit ourselves to realizing our goals and dreams by taking some action steps towards making the dream a reality. Until one is committed, there is hesitancy. But the moment one definitely commits oneself, the whole universe moves too. All sorts of things occur to help one that would never otherwise have occurred. A whole stream of events raising in one's favor unforeseen incidents and meetings and material assistance which we could never have dreamed would come our way.

4. Clarify your goal

The bottom line is: We can't have what we want until we know what we want and the more clearly we know what we want, the faster it comes to us, and writing clarifies what we're asking for. Once we are clear the Universe provides.

5. State the intention behind the goal

Another important point, instead of just writing down our goal, we also write down why we want that goal. This adds the powerful fuel of positive motivation or purpose to the equation.

6. Make an action plan with a timeline

The two most important questions we can ask ourselves during the process are: 1) What will I do next? and 2) By when will I do it? That gives us a schedule and a time-frame, and really gets the wheels in motion.

7. Offer prayers of gratitude in advance

Implicit in these words is the key of utilizing one of the most powerful forms of prayer.

8. Persevere despite lack of apparent results

“Perseverance is the whole magic of success.....you must believe in the possibility of what you are praying for.....When the can’t disappears from your mind, divine power comes....When you persist refusing to accept failure, the object of will must materialize. ”

— Paramahansa Yogananda

9. Meditate daily

Take the time, make the time for regular and deep meditation.

10. Practice affirmations

“I will go forth in the power of Omnipresent Good to bring me what I need at the time I need it. ”

— Paramahansa Yogananda

Schedule time for practicing affirmations with deep faith and concentration.
