I have spent my lifetime taking photographs. The photograph fulfils my deep need to stop things from disappearing. It makes transience less painful and retains some of the special magic, which I have looked for and found. I have tried to create order out of chaos, to find stability in flux and beauty in the most unlikely places.
— Dorothy Bohm

I was first introduced to Dorothy Bohm through my friend Joe Crosby, a building and design contractor, who was doing a restoration project at her daughter's home. Joe invited me to visit Dorothy's exhibition called the 'Sixties London', being held at the Jewish museum in London. Being interested in photography myself, I was immediately struck by Dorothy's work and how she was able to go beyond the ordinary and find meaning in the seemingly insignificant moments of life.

Later I met Dorothy at her London home in Hampstead where she invited me to have tea with her. Words fail me to express how inspired I was to meet her. 92 years old, Dorothy is energetic, youthful and full of life and is currently working on her new project - a book on life in London covering the last 5 years of the 20th century and the first 15 years of the present one. After giving me a tour of her interesting home and office, we settled comfortably in her dining room where she told me something of her life - how she came to London, how she began learning photography at 16 and how grateful she was to have an understanding husband, who was always supportive of her work that involved a lot of travel.

Here I present to my readers, some of Dorothy's pictures from Sixties London where Dorothy has tried to 'portray a living London: the people who pursued their daily occupations, walked, talked, ate or relaxed and were dressed in the fashions of the time'.

P.S. Special thanks to Dorothy's assistant Merita Zhubi, for helping me with the pictures and this post!
