What I eat in Germany: my 5 most memorable meals from my trips to Germany!
When you think of Europe and when you think of food, I think the first country that comes to mind is France...and why not?!-from time immemorial, the French have been known for their culinary skills and I have to say that the last time I flew Air France, the food was just delicious! What I also discovered from my many visits to Germany, is that they don't just eat potatoes all the time! Ok, it is a big part of their traditional diet but other than that I have eaten some of my most memorable meals in Germany; some of them I record here.
1. Vegan and healthy in Heidelberg :)
Please forgive me that I do not remember the name of this first floor, vegetarian restaurant in Heidelberg, Germany which is run by the devotees of the Chinmaya Mission. Knowing my preference for vegetarian food, my friend invited me for lunch at this very special restaurant when I was visiting Heidelberg a few years ago. We had excellent lasagna with salad and fresh carrot juice (all within €20 for two people)-the food was so good that I remember it till today! And they served this delicious, cream-cheese vegan dessert afterwards!
P.S. If anybody is interested to know more about this restaurant, please write to me and I can ask my friend about it.
2. Hungry at the Chiemsee!
A friend invited me to a day's outing at the Chiemsee when I was in Munich a couple of years ago. Besides, enjoying the weather and the lake (Chiemsee is a beautiful fresh water lake in South Germany near Rosenheim) and buying myself a beautiful new hat (that I eventually lost to the Pacific Ocean!), my friend and me shared this delicious meal platter of fresh fish and veggies at a restaurant in Chiemsee--I think that is fruit beer...I don't remember!!
3. Pasta in Nuremberg :)
Pasta is a city in Bavaria in South Germany....oh, wait a minute....I think I have too much food on my mind!! Nuremberg is a city in Bavaria in South Germany (haha! not pasta!) where me and my friend Nicola had an epic adventure! So when we finally sat down to eat, it was like getting fed after being hungry for many days! One always remembers such meals, right?!
4. A fish salad at the Starnberger See :)
When it comes to outings, I think I get very lucky! Once in Munich, I ran into an old friend who actually drove me to the very famous Starnberger See near Munich. It was a beautiful day, the sun was shining, people were swimming in the lake and I was dreaming about life as I sat with my friend on the deck of an elite restaurant eating this freshly prepared fish salad! In retrospect, it would have been fun to jump in the water-there was a dog swimming too, all right!
5. A lunch get-together in Wiesbaden :)
Nothing can really beat a cozy evening with like-minded friends, talking about all things under the sun with lots of good food and never ending coffee! I love visiting my friends who live in Wiesbaden, a quite, elegant town near Frankfurt, and we usually end up on the dining table with lots of food and great conversations!
