My hotel checklist: what I take with me when I check into a hotel ?
Hi friends, this post is actually inspired from my stay at the 5 star Westin Bonaventure Hotel in downtown L.A. last year. I usually stay at the hotel once every year for a yoga conference, and room service kind of gets expensive with all the extra taxes one has to pay, so I try to bring with me atleast some snacks that can keep me going through the day even if I am not having a regular meal. One time a friend asked me to help her with what she should carry with her to the hotel, so I made up a list of things to share with all of you who would be interested in such a thing. So here goes my list!
P.S. You may want to check if the hotel room you are checking in, has a refrigerator; one time I stayed at the Marriott and I actually had to ask for a refrigerator which they came and plugged in immediately. I know the Westin Bonaventure also rents microwaves for a very nominal rate, incase you want one in your room.
1. Half and Half for coffee addicts is a must :)
Ok, so I can't imagine to begin my day or keep going during the day without many good cups of coffee made my way, and since I like a lot of cream in my coffee, if I am not carrying a 'half and half' myself, I am left at the mercy of hotel room service for my supply of 'cream and sugar'! P.S. Make sure your room has a coffee maker otherwise the Electric Moka Espresso Maker from Bialetti is your best bet--quite dependable and travel friendly :).
2. Roasted mixed nuts from Lassens is just my thing!
I have to confess that my mouth started watering as I was posting this picture of the nuts from Lassens-the natural food and vitamins shop! I always feel so healthy and good when I reach out for them, either with my coffee or just to have as a snack during the day!
3. Who can do without chocolates!
I work out even when I am on vacation so I don't worry about eating some chocolate every now and then! Chocolates are great mood busters and make an excellent snack for my long hotel stays--somehow my heart always finds comfort and tranquility in a piece of good chocolate when I am away from family and friends. :)
4. My favorite kettle cooked potato chips are a great holiday snack!
I love these kettle cooked potato chips that come in different flavors--there is nothing like indulging in these chips after a good swim when I am on vacation!
5. Kind Healthy Grains make a delicious breakfast, snack and dinner!
If my room rate does not include breakfast, taking with me some packets of muesli/granola and milk (perhaps the small throw-away tetra packs, if there is no refrigerator in the room), is what I usually do to ensure that I don't go totally hungry before I begin my day. It also saves me money and time not to have the hotel breakfast buffet. :) Sometimes, I may even have it as my dinner if I am too lazy to go out to eat or running out of money to order something in my room.
6. Some cheese and bread always comes in handy!
This is usually my 4p.m. meal with a nice cup of coffee!
7. A small meal with boiled eggs is awesome too!
Last time my sister bought some boiled eggs at the Bonaventure hotel food-court/floor and fixed this delicious 2-minute lunch for us--organic bread with cherry tomatoes, some cheese and eggs, add a dash of salsa for a perfect midday meal!
Ok, so I would be totally interested in what you carry before checking in a hotel....? Post your list in the comments section and oh yes, I forgot water...I always carry my own water....who is going to pay $5 for a small bottle of water...!
