10 things that make a #photoshoot fun!

1. Good coffee like Feine Milde from Tchibo (my favorite) and good cookies. :) 2. Make up and everything else separated in bags and pouches to keep things organized. Shown here: Kiehl's pouch. 3. No jewelry or anything of the kind lying around: it's expensive and can get easily lost! 4. Clothes in order of preference neatly separated in stands: you may not have time to shoot everything you planned so it's important to decide what you want to photograph first!...

The Tory Burch tranquilizer

So I finally decided to go online and check out if #ToryBurch had some nice sales going on and guess what they had-extra 30%off sale styles now through Monday! As I started to browse the website and look at the beautiful sale styles, it was almost like having a tranquilizer-just to let you know, I've been having problems with a friend lately and browsing toryburch.com was immensely healing.

Save the dollar

It makes me feel really good to get the maximum use out of a purchase especially because I try to keep a shopping budget and remain within my purse (gosh, have I changed!). It can be very tempting to buy for eg. the Michaela Taffeta silk skirt from Ralph Lauren but wearing it only once does not justify the purchase unless I am making a red-carpet appearance which hasn't happened in this life till now!

Compulsive shopping

As an #avidshopper and #stylelover, I have to be careful how much I spend on clothes every month, lest I dig into my savings to pay credit card bills! I have to confess that I have gone through cycles of shopping excess and many times have been knocked flat on the ground when I've spent more than I should have.

Ein herzliches Gefühl

When I was studying #German, I came across this beautiful phrase, 'ein herzliches Gefühl' that so appropriately describes a wonderful, heartfelt feeling. When I run out of words in English to describe a really wonderful feeling, I simply say to myself, 'was für ein herzliches Gefühl!'. It's amazing how the German language has such precise words for such precise feelings! Ok, so I just checked the Eileen Fisher pre-fall Shoe Preview and it was totally and completely...ein herzliches Gefühl. :)

On a rainy day

Have you ever woken up on a rainy day already in half a mood with the mood getting stronger as the day progresses? Believe it or not, I sometimes go shopping on such days when the grey outside almost matches the grey inside (of me) and I don't know which one is stronger-the outside grey or the inside grey; they definitely compliment each other! I trotted away to #Zara yet again (can't blame myself, it's so terribly close to where I live!) to beat the grey and found this beautiful (sunshine!) yellow hooded Parka on sale at $59.99 (original price $149) only! No more greys!!!

I love Marchesa

Have you ever been in a space where time stands still and nothing exists except you and the object you behold and the connection between you and the object. For me, that happens usually when I see a beautiful dress-nothing can beat the connection there! My friend recently introduced me to Marchesa, the brand that specializes in high-end womenswear and has been seen many times on the red-carpet. :) Established in 2004, it is retailed in Neiman Marcus, Bergdorf Goodman, Saks Fifth Avenue and Net-A-Porter. I drowned in their dream-like prints, patterns and embroidery designs...worth checking out even if it's expensive. It's true Art. :)

Between shopping and meditation

Whoever has tried to meditate knows how difficult it is to get the mind still. What if the mind is literally crucified by desires for shoes, bags and clothes and that pink lace dress from Tadashi Shoji available at nordstrom.com which has been playing on the mind forever. Is it better to give up and just go shopping or is it better to persevere and shop another day? :) For now, am I glad that meditation is over and I can think of my next shopping trip.....:)

Keep the tags on

I was out #shopping today and picked up more clothes than I needed from the fabulous #Zara sale, splitting the money between cash and cards-I sometimes wonder why I do this, i.e. give in to the temptation of buying not what I need but what I want-heck, the mind makes you believe that you need everything! A good thing is to keep the tags on for a few days and when I can think more clearly, to return those items I can do without! :)

Getting over the habit of buying new stuff all the time!

#Mindisatrickything–one has to keep playing games with it. Ofcourse it's very nice to have #newclothes to wear all the time–what in the world can beat the #innerglowingfeeling one feels on holding a box that has just arrived from Ralph Lauren! However, having just gone through a shopping excess and not having enough space even to store the clothes that I already have, I am being forced to make difficult choices in life–to choose between moderation and indulgence.

Merci beaucoup Fedex

n continuation from yesterday, this post is to deeply thank all the #deliverytruckdrivers (Fedex, UPS etc.) who bring constant joy in our lives (except the credit card bills--I try to practice evenness of mind when those show up:)). Just the sight of a #UPS or a #Fedex truck driver is uplifting. There he is working hard all day in rain and shine just to bring joy to others and fulfill people's dreams! Picture this--you are sitting at home brooding over some past wrong you think a friend has done to you when suddenly the door bell rings and you hear the sound of #boxes getting stacked against the door! You hurriedly open the door just in time to see the #Fedextruckdriver leaving.

It all starts with the box!

I am completely sympathetic to that subtle feeling that goes through a young woman's heart (who has shopped a lot and must under all circumstances stop #shopping) when she sees a #Fedex or a #UPS delivery van. That sort of a displaced feeling that reminds one of the unpaid credit card bills and spreading fast from the mind to the body wrecking the entire nervous system. It may even hang on and turn itself into a malignant mood! I am very happy to admit that I have terribly improved over the past 'some days' especially since I am presently in a remote place where no UPS or Fedex truck can reach save internet and Wishlists!! My today's Wishlist is the calf-length organic cotton skirt from #EileenFisher ...

Dream the afternoon away!

How does one feel after spending the whole day reading reviews on #cameralenses and filling the head with camera junk--maybe it's not really junk but you know what I mean. It's so much more romantic to spend the afternoon at the #TalbotsStore and try out their #FitandFlareDresses in Lace and Polka Dots and Paisleys and Cotton Sateen and Doupioni or to just dream the afternoon away at #SaksFifthAvenue, than to go through camera reviews! Guess, have been watching too many Audrey Hepburn movies lately from the 50's. The gorgeous Fit and Flares, the Divine Satins and Taffetas and Laces-the Ballgowns and the Oversized Overcoats-what an era of grace and love! And thanks to Talbots for taking care of the 21st Century Woman with endless Classic Styles. :)
